Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
